The City of Ottawa has initiated a "rapid replacement" program for both Island Park bridges of Hwy. 417 (the Queensway) which begins tomorrow morning.
This involves, according to the City, removal of entire bridge sections in one go and dropping new, preconstructed sections in. Rather than taken weeks to months, a section can be finished and ready to use in 15 hours. The new sections will be constructed on-site nearby and the old sections demolished in the same site.
