Dr. David Suzuki

Last night Krys, Julia, Cat and I went out to hear David Suzuki speak. He is currently promoting his autobiography "David Suzuki: The Autobiography". Dr. Suzuki is always a great speaker and last night was no exception.
He gave us a bird's-eye view of his life to this point, spoke about his children, and touched on his environmental activism which really is pretty much part and parcel of his personal life. He is obviously proud of his children who have inherited much from him, most having followed in their father's scientific footsteps. His daughter Severn certainly has taken a leaf from her father's book and, apart from having recently received her Masters in Ethnobotany at the University of Victoria, when Severn was 9 she started the Environmental Children's Organization (ECO), a small group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. At 12, she gave a forceful speech at the UN's Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro urging the delegates to work on behalf of their own children and the children of the world toward a safer and healthier planet.
I bought a copy of his autobiography, as well as three copies of his book "Sacred Balance" and three copies of Elizabeth May's* book "How to Save the World in Your Spare Time", got them all autographed....
Julia with David Suzuki
* Elizabeth May, who is a good friend of Suzuki's, made the introductions. I met Elizabeth when she graced our fellowship by speaking about environmental activism and spirituality. I was pleased to do the sound and provide the music for that talk and was pleased that she recognized me and even remembered my name.

Aw, I knew he was coming some time soon. I missed the event. But I saw him a couple times ago. Enjoying the new autobiography?

The show was great! Rob and Ken don't do a lot of shows together but they play so well off each other, both very accomplished. It is always a pleasure to see any of the various combinations of the guys play.

I saw Ken, Rob and Ray Harris tonight in Manotick and it was a great show.

I haven't had the chance to get started on the autobiography but will start it tomorrow night. I am very much looking forward to it.
